City of the Strong

Behind the stereotypes the true grandeur of Petersburg is lost — its heavy, seething energy, which not everyone is ready to touch. Living through an inner tension, I turn to Klodt's horses as a metaphor for the attempt to tame this force and my own thoughts. Here the city reveals itself through red and black: not misty and monochrome, but full of layers hidden from the eye, living behind the façades. This is an altogether different perception of the city — not the one postcards have taught us. A separate discovery was that shooting on an ordinary phone with a retro filter gives a poster-like quality in the spirit of Constructivist photography.
